NBI Clearance is one of the important documents that should be kept updated from time to time. There are some cases where even if you’re out of the country as an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW), you are still required to get or renew your NBI Clearance for employment purposes.
The NBI Clearance is only valid for a year. But most OFWs have contracts signed for more or less than two (2) years. So it is impossible for them to go back to the Philippines immediately just to get or renew their NBI Clearance.
Luckily, you can still get or renew your NBI clearance even though you’re miles away from your homeland. How? Just keep on reading and I will provide you with the easiest way possible on getting your NBI clearance.
NBI CLEARANCE APPLICATION WHEN YOU’RE ABROAD
There are two ways on how you can get your NBI Clearance: 1) with an authorized representative or 2) without an authorized representative.
CHOICE # 1: With an Authorized Representative
Through the help of a relative or a friend from the Philippines, you can get your clearance by giving them your signed authorization letter along with your requirements and they will do the process on your behalf. (Take note that an online appointment is also required in this process)
Here are the steps on how you can get your clearance with the help of an authorized representative:
STEP 1: COMPLETE ALL THE REQUIREMENTS
Here are the things that you will need for new applicants.
- NBI Form No. 5 or also known as the Fingerprint Form.
- You can get this from the Philippine Embassy or consulate in the country where you live. Your authorized representative can also get this from the Mailed Clearance Section located at the 3/f, NBI Clearance Building, UN Avenue, Manila.
- Fill out this form then submit it at the embassy or to the nearest police station (for your representative). Personnel in charge will take your fingerprint impression and he/she must sign the form. ( Fingerprinting service provided by the Embassy comes with a fee which may vary in every country)
- 2×2 Picture
- Passport size
- In white background
- Must be taken within three (3) months prior to application
- Photocopy of your Passport (recent departure stamp) and other valid IDs issued by your host country
- Letter of Authorization (with signature)
Send all these requirements to your authorized representative in the Philippines.

STEP 3: PAY THE NBI CLEARANCE FEE
After your application is done, choose your preferred payment option. After the successful payment, a reference number will be provided. The NBI clearance costs Php 130 and an additional fee of Php 25 for the service charge of the payment service brings to a total of Php 155.
STEP 4: SUBMIT YOUR REQUIREMENTS TO NBI

(Remind your representative to also bring his/her own valid ID)

STEP 5: ISSUANCE OF NBI CLEARANCE
- Direct your authorized representative to return on the claim date then proceed to the printing section to get the NBI clearance.
- Ask your representative to send your NBI clearance via email to you. When you receive it, go to the Consulate to have your clearance stamped.
CHOICE # 2: WITHOUT AN AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE
If you don’t have any representative that you can trust from the Philippines that can help you, this is the only option that you can take to get your NBI Clearance. You will be the one who will be doing all the work. The procedure is easy so there’s nothing to worry about. Just allot time to do it so you can finish the process easily without any hassles.
Here are the steps on how you can get your NBI Clearance all by yourself:
